Overview

The "Sprinter" light rail DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) line is the newest member of the (NCTD) North County Transit District, The NCTD also operates the San Diego Coaster Trains and Breeze Bus. The Sprinter line reused some pre-existing trackage of the 22-mile-long Escondido Branch of the San Diego Northern Railroad.

There are 15 stations serving the cities of Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido At the Oceanside Transit Center one can connect to the Amtrak Coaster, two Metrolink train lines, and various bus services.

Roster

Sprinter service is operated with twelve married pairs of Siemens VT642 Desiro DMUs, built in Germany.
