Overview
Le Mans had an electric tramway network in the early part of the 20th Century (1897 to 1947). And like other French cities, it decided to build a modern tramway network in the 21st Century. The work started in June 2004, and in 2007, 18 km. of modern tramway line became operational. It is operated by SETRAM (Société des Transports en Commun de la ville du Mans). The main line from Antares to University was operational in August 2007, but officially inaugurated on November 17, 2007. The short 4 km. branch from Espal to Arche de la Nature was opened on December 22, 2007. SETRAM has a fleet of 23 Alstom Citadis 302 trams, each given a unique name as well as a number.
